Most of the comments are so wrong. The Nissan B platform is very good. Not the best, but not the worst. The engine is really good. Lots of the parts internally are shared with the Renaultsport Clio. It also has insane midrange. It sounds like it will shock lots of people. At least Nissan is marking an effort to a sporty cat.

But it doesn’t make 400hp like a true sports compact so I don’t care.

Many of them were comparing it to the badass concept car, but if you compare almost any concept car to the production version than of course it would seem lame.

Take a look at the Hyundai Elantra Sport for a moment then come back to the Nismo.
This is a bodykit on a Sentra SR Turbo. The Elantra actually has suspension upgrades, including multilink rear upgrade. I just made a post about it, should appear in a minute.
Now think if THAT is the Sport what is the Elantra N going to be like?
Hyundai has one upped Nissan. What car would you buy a Sentra Nismo over?
Keep in mind that the Sentra SR Turbo is $21k. The same price as this Hyundai. This nismo is going to compete with the Golf GTI and Focus ST.

LSD and 280 horsepower possible. It just might be better than the Type-R.

I’m comparing it to other cars that will be $25k.
Is it better than a Golf GTI or Focus ST or Scion FRS?

If they can manage 230 hp and 250 lbft I think they will do well as it is close to the GTI in weight and the GTI can give the WRX a run for its money in normal driving.

If my fiesta ST can out run it with ease, then we have several problems here....

People suck. Front page people suck doubly so. As the industry has moved forward, enthusiasts have become more nitpicky than ever, and journalist are no longer passionate or clever enough to tell them why they’re wrong.

Except even compared to the most recent SE-R spec V it even seems underwhelming. The 2007-12 spec v had 200 hp and an LSD and a manual. And this has less power, no LSD, and no manual; and it’s their NISMO version. A regular old golf with the 1.8t would seem to be at least as sporty if not more so.
I am not crazy about judging a car based on spec alone. But between the spec, price, and the competition; I think it’s at least fair to say this thing may struggle to get market traction.
